Rather, the man behind Video Professor is a dedicated CEO who has spent the last 20 years building his company into the industry leader for computer education. Over 10 million households now use his groundbreaking video lessons every day. John’s business philosophy is simple: “show up, do the best job possible and meet the customers’ needs.” This philosophy has served him well and has even kept Video Professor growing through the economic downturn in recent years. Unlike many companies that raised money from investors and then quickly squandered it, Video Professor is privately owned and built on a solid foundation. “We worked from the bottom up,” Scherer said. “We’re a real company. We make real money.”

John W. Scherer began as a computer manufacturer in the mid-80s, selling computers to local dealers. Video Professor was born when it became clear to him that there was a larger market for teaching computer skills than for selling them. At the time, no other company was providing necessary computer training. John appointed himself the Video Professor and set out to create comprehensive lessons to teach people how to use their PCs quickly and easily. The core of Video Professor’s teaching initiative is providing home users as well as corporate professionals with valuable and user-friendly learning solutions for today’s most common software titles. Video Professor and John W. Scherer are dedicated to pioneering the future of computer education.

Born in St. Charles, Ill., and raised in Geneva, Ill., John W. Scherer is a direct descendant of both John and Joseph Naper, founders of Naperville, Ill. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
